Dear Me,
It has been a while since I have asked myself, “Do I Love Me?”. My instinctive and natural answer is yes. Well, if that is the case, how have I proven it? What actions have I taken so that I can answer that question without reservation or hesitation? In other words, what have I done for me lately? There are many ways for me to express my love for me. I remind myself that love is an action word. And action speaks louder than words all day, every day. Since love is an action word, what actions have I taken to love me. Love my whole self, my mind, my body, and my soul.
As I sat and thought about a true assessment of how much I have shown love for me, I must say, and truth be told, I have not done much.
As I break down the three aspects in which I should love myself, starting with my mind. I must remember that what I allow in my psyche is what will control my daily mood and mentality. Therefore, I must not allow negativity, doubt, drama, someone else’s opinion, or disappointment take me mentally to an unstable place.
The next aspect of loving myself is taking care of my body. My health is important. Exercise, rest, and the intake of healthy foods and drink are essential. These things are necessary if I want an advantage of staying healthy. My annual appointments with health care professionals are not an option. Make them and keep them. Pay attention to my body, it will show me signs of abnormality. I promise myself to exercise, eat healthy and get proper rest. Even if my exercise is limited because of physical constraints, there is some type of physical activity in which I can participate.
Then there is my soul. My soul is a deep feeling and where my strength resides. My strength comes from my spirituality. I must be sure to take time to pray, meditate and study God’s word. These three actions are the actions that will give me a healthy soul.
My plan to love myself better comes from the actions that I mentioned. I plan to protect what I allow to come into my mind. I will take actions to maintain a healthy body. And I plan to strengthen my soul daily with spiritual actions. If I stick to this, the next time someone asks me “Do I Love Me?”, I will not hesitate to say YES, of course. My response will be “My love for myself has been in action and this is the proof!” AND I will be able to see and know what I have done for myself lately!
Yours Truly,
Me
Some people may consider self-love as conceit and it can be when it's taken over the extreme. However, when self-love means taking care of your well-being - mind, body and soul - then, it is mandatory. This is a lesson that we all need to learn. I once heard someone say that what other people think of you, is none of your business. A GIF once sent to me said, "Don't let negative and toxic people rent space in your head. Raise the rent and kick them out." So, I end by saying, "I love me. You don't love me? What's wrong with you?"😉 Of course, I love God, first!
Wonderful post, Pennee!
